First off, Happy New Year! I hope everyone is off to a good start. 😀
I’ve been cracking down on the manuscript, but some of these scenes have been putting up a fight. More effort than I expected them to, but that’s alright. We’re almost done. No sense in beating myself up about it.
Anyway, quick recap on last year’s goals before I get into my plans for 2019.
Goal #1: Review & Implement Select Beta Reader Feedback on TEROH.
I almost completed this before the end of the year. -_- Like I said, some of these scenes have been a bit challenging to get right, so I’m taking the extra time to do so. I’ve got 3 scenes left, but I don’t think they’ll be as challenging as the one I just finished up today; it was a completely new scene I added to show a development between two main characters that didn’t have the benefit of multiple editing passes before it.
I keep in mind that my manuscript starting out was over 216K words, but I’m sure there are things I can do to get more out of my time, as well—like limit my Internet use for “research” (*shifty eyes*)—so that’s what I’ll work on this year, now that I understand my full writing (and editing) process a lot better.
Goal #2: Write As Much of Revolutionary as Possible
I guess I should have added “plan” to that goal, but the good news is I took the time to plan out the main plot for Book II already—using voice recordings, nonetheless! (I still need to blog about that sometime.)
Otherwise, I did get about three and a half scenes written. However, Book I was my primary goal to finish last year, so I didn’t go too wild with Book II (yet).
Goal #3: Clean Up the House
I think with this goal, it was mostly about getting rid of a bunch of vintage and second-hand chairs I picked up on a whim a while back. I’m happy to report that those are gone now.
Well, the ones I didn’t already buy fabrics for.
Since I have a big project this year that’ll require a lot of funds, I’ll have to hold off on getting those upholstered. For now.
I didn’t paint the rest of my lower level, though. Honestly, I’m not even worried about that right now, lol.
Goal #4: Attend a Convention & Meet Some Dieselpunks!
I actually did this. Went to the local Comic-Con and met some other writers—one that I happened to be following on Instagram. It was cool. 🙂 I’m glad I went.
Okay, now for this year’s goals. Brace yourselves!
Goal #1: Have TEROH Professionally Edited
Since I’m planning on independently publishing my novel, I’m going to have it edited by a pro. Developmental, content, everything. I got a pretty sweet deal, so I might as well take advantage of it.
Scary but exciting. I should be able to send off my manuscript this month.
Goal #2: Publish TEROH in the Fall!
How exciting to finally be close to publication! This is the year I make it happen, folks. It’s been years I’ve worked on this thing.
Hopefully, it pays off.
Goal #3: Resume Work on Book II
I’m really excited to get back to work on the second novel. I’ve got a lot of big ideas for it. Lots of inspiration, too!
Part of my plans for publishing Book I includes making a book trailer. I already have a mock-up template made until I get the final artwork for the book. I also found neat cinematic music I can use for it (the license was inexpensive, like $35), which gave me the idea to find music for all the books in my series. (Haven’t bought those yet, just picked them out.)
I won’t share them now, but listening to them—especially the ones for Books II and V—just gets me so pumped! It’s just another way to brand the series, really, besides the cover design and a consistent voice across all sales copy.
Exciting stuff. We’ll see how far I can get with Book II this year.
I guess I could go into personal goals, but honestly, I’ll have my hands full with just these three as it is. Let’s leave it at that.
